When I picked up Fashion Illustration
Somewhere I read “Body of a woman: Simplicity of a line, complexity of a curve”. I am obsessed with the female form, legs, feet, arms, hands, facial features and I think every curve in a female body is full of mysteries. A nice dress complements a woman’s body, and shoes are pedestals to put out a lady on display as nature’s ultimate work of design and architecture.
No I am not superficial. I’m completely aware that people can have more than just a pretty box as their body. I am perfectly aware that woman are people too with good ,evil, happy, sad, inspiring, depressing thoughts, feelings, and desires. Believe me as a system designer I know where to separate design from the content.
It’s just that nature has decided to make the female form look more beautiful. Probably men are sketchy prototypes for making women.
I’ve noticed something about myself when I am in a bar, restaurant, dance club, coffee shop, or on the street and see a beautiful lady pass by, I am not necessary fantasizing about what happens between the sheets! in fact there are times that I am admiring the lines, curves, proportions, colors, elegant moves and the character. I think people on the street are more beautiful than fashion models, hollywood actors ,and actresses. I wonder if he or she on the street knows that too.
Do I make any sense?
I picked up drawing and fashion illustration as a hobby 1.5 years ago simply to nurture that obsession in me. No I didn’t go to the Fashion school, what I did was to order books from Amazon.com and start teaching myself how to draw using traditional medium good old pencil and paper.
The drawings that you see are the result of self training from the book Fashion Illustration Concept to Creation by Steven Stipelman. Right Now I am practicing from the book Figure Drawing for Fashion Design by Elisabetta Drudi and Tiziana Paci. I will keep you posted.
